Injury situation worsens as Henderson heads stateside to see specialist

When Jordan Henderson trudged off against Bournemouth, few were thinking it was anything more than a knock. His rather innocuous looking foot injury looks to have become something serious however, and he has now been flown to America in order to see a specialist, as reported by the Mirror.

Our captain has become increasingly important to the side, and his absence has been a real blow. We were hoping to have him back as soon as possible, but as the weeks wear on a speedy recovery is looking less and less likely.

He was sorely missed against Manchester United, and will be so again when we play host to Norwich. The Mirror’s report claims he’s desperate to play against the Canaries, but does that really look likely given that he’s currently in New Jersey seeing an expert?

The report claims Brendan Rodgers doesn’t expect Henderson to be fit for Sunday, so it would be a real surprise to see him feature. We should be focusing on getting our skipper back to full fitness rather than rushing him back to action though, so patience is definitely key – regardless of the repercussions it has on our early season form.

Although Henderson is slowly becoming a bigger cog in the Liverpool machine, we still boast more than enough quality to get by without him, and can’t blame our stuttering start on his absence entirely.
