So poor… Iago Aspas learnt just one word of English during his entire stay at Liverpool

Well it wasn’t ‘corner’, we know that for sure…

Iago Aspas, the only rival for El Hadji Diouf as the worst no.9 in Liverpool’s Premier League history, learnt ONE word during his 12 months on Merseyside: ‘Yes’.

According to Spanish publication Marca, cited here in the Echo, the 2013 summer signing, who resembled a face drawn on a balloon, mastered only the English language’s simplest word throughout an entire season.

Considering most English tourists, renowned for their inability to pick up European tongues while abroad, at least manage ‘ ‘Dos cervezas por favor’ during a fortnight in Spain, this is totally shocking.

Although considering how disastrous Aspas was, it’s not entirely surprising. The ‘striker’ turned out 15 times during the 2013/14 campaign, managing just the one goal in the FA Cup, looking like a Championship footballer at best every time he stepped onto the pitch.

We loaned him to Sevilla last season and thankfully the La Liga outfit bought him permanently this summer, before selling him straight back to Celta Vigo.

Good riddance.
