Christian Benteke’s injury: Striker damages medial ligaments in training

Posted by

We literally couldn’t believe this news when we first heard it last night.

Has there ever been a season so decimated by injuries early on? If so, we can’t remember it.

Christian Benteke, having just come back from a hamstring problem, now joins Jordan Henderson, Daniel Sturridge, Jon Flanagan, Danny Ings, Joe Gomez and Jordan Rossiter on the treatment table.

The Belgian was working his way back into fitness, scoring a wonderful header during a 45 minute cameo versus Southampton at the weekend – but he’s now been ruled out of tonight’s match with Bournemouth with knee medial ligament damage, says the Guardian.

He’s looking similarly unlikely to be available for Chelsea at the weekend – meaning our only fit centre-forward Divock Origi will likely get another start.

The young Belgian has looked very raw so far and in truth, not ready to lead our line.

Benteke’s early start to his Anfield career has been promising when he’s been fit, but this is his second injury since a £32.5m transfer from Aston Villa. It’s imperative that he maintains health when he recovers for his chances of justifying his price-tag and our chances of a top four finish.
