Manchester City and Liverpool return to domestic action on Saturday after both sides have had a whole host of players flying around the world on international duty this week.
The Premier League leaders are expected to be without both Sergio Aguero and David Silva once more whilst having a further string of injuries throughout the squad.
This offers Jurgen Klopp a great opportunity to get a result at the Etihad and he could even welcome back Daniel Sturridge this weekend to further boost the squad.
Our injury list isn’t much more kind than the hosts – captain Jordan Henderson is still sidelined, we’ll also be missing centre-back Mamadou Sakho. Danny Ings and Joe Gomez are done for the season and there are even doubts over both James Milner and Jordon Ibe for Saturday.
City’s performances in their last two Premier League games have taken a notable dip. They relied on a late penalty to beat Norwich City 2-1 at home and were held 0-0 at bottom-of-the-league Aston Villa last time out.
We’re looking to bounce back from a surprise defeat at home by Crystal Palace before the international break that has left us seven points off the Champions League places. For the betting enthusiasts amongst us, this game has all the makings of an underdog upset especially given what we did at Stamford Bridge under Klopp. You can check our match tips here, and read on below for the rest of the team news and predictions.
Manchester City team news
Sergio Aguero is not expected to make his return this weekend. The Argentine has missed their last four Premier League games with a hamstring injury. His replacement, Wilfried Bony picked up a similar injury early on in the draw at Aston Villa, but not as serious. The Ivorian could start on Saturday.
David Silva has been sidelined for the past four games also and has only made five Premier League appearances this season. The Spaniard is not expected to be fit in time for this one, neither is fellow attacking midfielder Samir Nasri.
Fabian Delph has struggled with injuries all season since his move from Aston Villa and is doubtful for this one.
Defensively, Pablo Zabaleta is out but Vincent Kompany should shake off a calf injury to start.
Liverpool team news
The big news is that Daniel Sturridge could return to face his former club this weekend. We think he’ll make the bench at best. Christian Benteke and Divock Origi are available in attack.
Jordan Henderson continues to be absent in midfield. Just as concerning as that is that James Milner is a doubt for the weekend. To have neither Englishman would be a blow. Winger Jordon Ibe is also a doubt.
Dejan Lovren is expected to play alongside Martin Skrtel as Mamadou Sakho is ruled out with a knee injury.
