Roberto Firmino is ‘unbelievable’ claims spellbound Liverpool teammate

You can always get a sense of how talented a player is by hearing stories from teammates who see them on the training ground.

And while this isn’t the almost parodied “Paul Scholes could hit a tree from 60 yards” nonsense we hear from Manchester United alumni, it does display how impressed Liverpool players are by summer signing Roberto Firmino.

Until the Manchester City demolition, Firmino had only shown his ability fleetingly in a red shirt, partly due to Brendan Rodgers playing him in the wrong position and partly due to injury problems.

But his performance at the Etihad last weekend was mesmeric, and was symbolic of Jurgen Klopp’s effect since arriving.

Dejan Lovren, who was also excellent against the Sky Blues, has waxed lyrical about the 24-year-old Brazilian.

“Roberto is growing,” Lovren told the ECHO.

“We need to give him time as he’s settling into a new country.

“But he has great, great talent. We see it every day in training and now we’re seeing it in the matches.

“He caused City a lot of problems. He’s an unbelievable player. He has so much skill.

“Roberto scored one and could even have got a hat-trick. He creates and he scores.

“He has so much potential and I know he’s going to get better and better for us.”

Firmino can either play as a false 9 or an advanced midfielder, but if Klopp wants to get Daniel Sturridge back into the side, it may be that the former Hoffenheim man plays just off the fit again centre-forward, with Coutinho up there too. What a scintillating potential attacking triumvirate…
