GK) Simon Mignolet – 4/10

Oh dear, Simon. Stupidly held onto the ball for 22 seconds, and Bordeaux scored the opener from the subsequent indirect free kick. Only himself to blame. Thankfully it didn’t prove too costly.

DR) Nathaniel Clyne – 7/10

Did well, as usual. Looked better going forward tonight, and did his job at the back. But surely he and Moreno need a rest soon…?

DL) Alberto Moreno – 6/10

Good going forward, poor defensively – as is occasionally his problem. Made some strange decisions and passes with the ball at his feet.

DC) Kolo Toure – 6/10

Kind of feels like it’s his testimonial every time he plays. Urged to shoot whenever in possession, but ultimately, didn’t win enough aerial duels.

DC) Dejan Lovren – 7/10

Solid tonight, and it deserves mentioning. So often the liability, but backed up his confident interview from this morning with a strong showing.

DMC) Lucas – 6/10

Picked up his standard yellow, but wasn’t as composed and effective as he has been recently. We’ll still miss him Sunday, mind.

MC) Joe Allen – 7/10 (Can – 67′)

Given a rousing reception by the Kop upon his exit, which was reward for a high energy combative performance. Completed five tackles, more than any player on the park.

AMR) Jordon Ibe – 6.5/10 (Origi – 92′)

Much better on the left than he was when switched to the right, Ibe looked dangerous in the first-half, but didn’t contribute enough in the second.

AMC) Roberto Firmino – 5/10 (Lallana – 74′)

A real anticlimax after the Man. City performance. Gave the ball away often and clearly missed Coutinho buzzing around next to him.

AML) James Milner – 6/10

Scored his penalty, crucially, but wasn’t creative in possession which has been a serious issue for us at Anfield. Luckily Jordan Henderson’s return is only round the corner.

FC) Christian Benteke – 8/10

Scored a beauty and had two goals disallowed, which if the assistants were in slightly kinder mood, would have seen the Belgian leave the field with a hat-trick. Doesn’t possess the trickery of Coutinho and Roberto Firmino, but makes up for it in brute force.

Subs:

Emre Can – 6/10 – So, so for 25 minutes.

Adam Lallana – n/a

Divock Origi – n/a
