Alberto Moreno plays down his agent’s Real Madrid talk

Alberto Moreno hasn’t heard anything from La Liga giants Real Madrid, despite his agent Javier Moya stoking the fires of a potential transfer.

The left-back has shone under Jurgen Klopp, and although he still has a defensive blunder in the locker, he’s excellent going forward and has the potential to develop into an elite fullback.

But thankfully, Real Madrid haven’t approached him, and long may it continue.

“I have never had anything serious with them – not me, not my brothers or representatives,” Moreno told Spanish radio, cited in the Echo.

“I have not found out about that [Real Madrid interest], I do not know whether that is true.”

Quotes started circling the web this morning attributed to our young Spaniard’s agent, who claimed the Bernabeu club are hugely interested and the player would jump at a move…

“If Real Madrid were to make an offer that would make him really happy, but Liverpool would have to take the first step,” Moya said.

“If a team as important as Real Madrid were to speak with us and Liverpool were satisfied with the operation, we would talk.

“Inquiring about an important player is logical, that is normal. Important teams from Spain and other places are asking. It’s difficult.

“Everyone knows the importance of Real Madrid but Liverpool have five European Cups.”

But despite the speculation, it seems as if Moreno has his head truly focussed on the task in hand, claiming a title pursuit is possible thanks to the failures of the teams above us.

“Right now I think we can fight to win the Premier League title,” he told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.

“We are in a very good moment and the rivals who are above us are dropping points. It can happen [winning the title].

“I do not say 100% that we are going to win it but we can fight for it.”

Talk of winning the title is a little premature, and realistically a top four finish would be success in itself.

Still, it’s great to see Moreno’s enthusiasm, and we hope these Real Madrid rumours slowly go away.
