Moreno’s agent fuels talk of Real Madrid switch

Alberto Moreno’s agent, Javier Moya, has reportedly been talking about our left-back’s future with Spanish radio station Radio4G. Unfortunately, his comments suggest Real Madrid are interested in the 23-year-old.

“It’s logical that they ask about such an important player” he said. “Important teams from Spain and other places are all asking”.

“If a team like Real Madrid speak with us and Liverpool are satisfied with the operation, they could talk. If a team with the substance of Real Madrid makes an offer, it would be a joy for him.”

It would be a joy for him” is the worrisome phrase. While agents trying to test the waters and keep options open for their clients is nothing new, it’s safe to assume that Moya wouldn’t have made such a bold statement without the player’s blessing.

It would be a blow to lose the talented full-back. After being kept on the fringes of the first team at the start of the season under Rodgers, the injury to Joe Gomez and the appointment of Klopp have seen him become an integral part of the back four.

On a more positive note, just last month Moreno himself said he had no interest in leaving Anfield – but we all know things can move quickly in football, especially with the January transfer window just around the corner.

If he were to be sold, it would leave us massively short at left-back. As mentioned, Gomez is a long-term absentee, while Jose Enrique a) seems more interested in posting comical videos on social media than fighting for a place in the first team, and b) is somewhat of a liability defensively.

Quality left-backs are difficult to come by at the best of times – but even more so in the January window and with little time to plan.

Hopefully Klopp’s recent comments about turning us back into a side that players wouldn’t want to leave comes to fruition, but if we can’t secure a top four spot come May, we might have to bid farewell to one of our brightest young talents.
