Liverpool trying to poach out of contract Chelsea teenager

Liverpool are interestingly competing with Jurgen Klopp’s former side Borussia Dortmund for the signature of Chelsea defender Ola Aina, reports the Mirror.

Aina is 19-years-old and is highly rated, although he’s yet to represent Jose Mourinho’s first-team.

The teenager is out of contract in the summer, and foreign clubs will be able to freely approach him come January due to the Bosman ruling – although Liverpool would have to wait until the end of the season as we’re a domestic rival.

Napoli are also monitoring Aina’s progress, noting the youngster’s superb performances for Chelsea’s all-conquering youth sides. Not many of them get a chance in Mourinho’s side though, so the defender may feel it’s time to move to pastures new.

Aina likes to play at centre-back but is adept at both fullback positions making him a real versatile performer. His chances at breaking into Liverpool’s side might be equally slim of course. Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno seemingly have both fullback spots nailed down for the foreseeable, while Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho provide three experienced, international options for central defence. What’s more, Joe Gomez is returning at the end of the season from injury, and will be looking to pick up where he left off.
