Marko Grujic to Liverpool is a £4.3m done deal, confirm Serbian newspaper

Exciting news, Reds.

The first signing of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool stewardship is very likely to be young midfielder Marko Grujic, with Serbian newspaper Mondo confirming a £4.3m deal.

The source claims a telephone conversation with the Reds boss was enough to convince the 19-year-old prodigy to sign. Liverpool’s assistant Zeljko Buvan told the club of Grujic’s talent, and it now appears the powers that be have got it over the line.

Liverpool will pay the money upfront, but Grujic will stay in Serbia for the remainder of the season to help Red Star Belgrade qualify for the Champions League – but will join us in the summer.

Grujic has represented Serbia at every youth level, and has shone this term for the table toppers. Red Star are first by a jaw-dropping 22 points and haven’t lost a game yet either. The central-midfielder has played 19 of the 21 games so far, scoring five goals and establishing himself as one of the most promising teenage midfielders in Europe.

Discussing the sale, Grujic’s current manager Miodrag Bozovic said: “Objectively, only from the sale of players can we work towards the Europa League or the Champions League.”

Grujic is a box-to-box midfielder with physicality that belies his age. In this respect he can be most obviously compared to Emre Can in our current squad, and we promise we’ll do as much as we can to find out more information now a deal is seemingly done!

£4.3m is nothing in today’s money, so the Grujic deal barely represents a risk at all. Let’s hope he fulfils his potential at Anfield.
