Liverpool had €30m deadline day bid rejected for Argentine striker

There were no noises from Liverpool, but according to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera (cited by Football Italia), we bid €30m for Inter Milan hotshot Mauro Icardi on transfer deadline day.

The Argentine forward has fallen out with manager Roberto Mancini, who dropped him for the Milan Derby at the weekend, but according to the report – Inter rejected our advances because they didn’t have time to find a replacement.

The 22-year-old has scored eight goals in 18 Serie A appearances so far this term, having plundered 22 in 2014/15.

He has however recently fallen out of the side, and has a controversial reputation – ever since he married his former team-mate Maxi Lopez’s ex-wife and got a tattoo of his children – as reported here by the Daily Mail.

Icardi though is an excellent finisher, possesses pace and movement, and at 22 – has plenty of room for improvement.

Liverpool though have never had success with purchasing players from Serie A – unless you count Ian Rush’s return from Juventus back in the day.

For a figure which translate as £22.7m, it’d be quite a risk, although one probably worth taking with the current squad’s inability to find the back of the net.

These reports are solely coming from Italy right now though, and until we have them confirmed by reliable Liverpool sources – we cannot be sure if we really did have an offer turned down.
