Toni Gomes named ‘Jurgen Klopp’s most valuable jewell’ by European scout report

German publication Sport Bild produce a weekly feature in which they scout and analyse a big youth talent from anywhere in Europe, and this week – they chose Liverpool forward Toni Gomes!

Bild describe him as ‘one of the great hopes of the club’, ‘a thoroughbred striker’ and ‘fast, powerful and energetic’.

The 17-year-old arrived at the Academy at the start of 2015, having been brought up in Guinea-Bissau in West Africa – only moving to Portugal as a 15-year-old. Two years later, he’s one of Liverpool’s most promising prospects and a teenager with immense potential.

Alongside Herbie Kane, Yan Dhanda, Bobby Adekanye and Trent Alexander Arnold, Gomes is one of the most talented youth prospects at Kirkby, and next season he’ll likely progress into the Under-21s and play against stronger, better opponents.

Bild’s claim that he’s already close to the first-team is incorrect in our opinion, however.

And actually, if they’re picking from our teenage starlets, we’re surprised Bild ignored Sheyi Ojo. The wonderkid is only a year older than Gomes but has already scored his first goal for our first-team and is very much knocking on the first-team door too.
