Liverpool need to buy a new goalkeeper in the summer…

Many Liverpool fans already held this belief, but Mignolet’s blunder against Sunderland, his ninth of the Premier League season that led directly to a goal, confirmed it for us. He simply costs us points on a weekly basis, and we need a replacement. He’s until the end of the season to prove us wrong and save his Anfield career, which is longer than he’s earned having arrived at the club back in 2013.

Mamadou Sakho hasn’t been the same player since his hamstring injury…

Remember how good the Frenchman was at the start of the season? Sakho was imperious, strong and excellent with the ball at his feet. However in recent weeks he’s looked a liability. He did poorly for Leicester City’s second goal last time and shouldn’t have allowed Jermain Defoe to turn so easily for Sunderland’s second on Saturday. When he’s good, he’s very good, but when he’s bad – he’s pretty bad too. We need our centre-backs to be consistent, first and foremost, but Sakho’s badly out of form. With Dejan Lovren limping off and Martin Skrtel still out, this is a big worry.

Roberto Firmino is the real deal…

Firmino has six goals and five assists in his 16 Premier League starts. Not bad from a player naively branded a failure around Christmas time. The Brazilian, in the absence of Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge, is clearly our best player. Against Sunderland Firmino scored the opener, brilliantly assisted Lallana’s effort and had a few impressive long shots. When he can get on the field alongside the currently injured pair, we’ll be able to truly judge our attacking prowess.

Injuries continue to punish us…

Just when Liverpool were getting out of our injury crisis, two more have occurred. Before the first-half was out on Saturday, Dejan Lovren and Joe Allen had both limped off, so will now be unavailable for the West Ham clash on Tuesday and potentially next weekend at Aston Villa as well. Thankfully Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi are all on the verge of a return, but Martin Skrtel, Jordan Rossiter, Joe Gomez and Danny Ings are still out.

The protest WORKED…

By far the most important thing we can take from Saturday is the successful protest which took place after 77 minutes. 10,000 fans streamed out of the ground, and FSG have taken note. Reports indicate that they’ll meet to discuss restructuring the prices ahead of the 2016/17 season. Many suggested the protest wouldn’t do any good, but they were wrong. It’s crucial, as it shows that Liverpool supporters DO have a voice and CAN make a difference to club policy.
