Liverpool keeping tabs on Chelsea’s on-loan defender

Liverpool, along with both Manchester clubs, are monitoring the situation of impressive young Danish defender Andreas Christensen, the Daily Mail reports.

The 19-year-old is currently on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, where he’s been for 18 months, and is shining in the Bundesliga.

In fact, he scored two goals at the weekend against Werder Bremen in a 5-1 win.

However, the Telegraph claim Chelsea are ready to try and cancel Christensen’s loan deal early so the youngster can head back to Stamford Bridge and cover for Kurt Zouma – who’s recently picked up a debilitating injury.

The Daily Mail report suggests Chelsea want to integrate him into the first-team squad come the summer and will not sell him to Monchengladbach permanently, but it’s possible he’ll be back at the Bridge even sooner.

Either way, it doesn’t look like our rivals would sell him to us.

But we’ve got Joe Gomez returning ahead of the new season, so this news doesn’t bother us too much. Along with the teenager, Joel Matip is likely to sign on a Bosman (Revier Sport), which should boost our central defence no end.
