The news was broken by Twitter journalist @BrazilStats, who keeps a close eye on Liverpool’s Brazilian contingent.

There are some highly regarded talents in the Under-20 setup such as Marcos, Malcolm, Andreas Perreira and the world renowned wonderkid Gabriel Barbosa, so it’s some achievement.

Allan shone on loan in Finland for SJK during the first half of the season, where he won a title, before being sent to Belgian side Sint-Truiden for the remainder of the campaign. He’s struggled to stamp his authority on his new side yet, but hopefully he’ll find his feet and rack up appearances before the summer – where we’d expect to see him join up with Liverpool for pre-season.

The international recognition shows how highly Allan is regarded. We signed him from Internacional last summer as a relative unknown, but his development has not gone unnoticed.

He can play either as a no.10 or a deeper, central midfield playmaker – comfortable with the ball at his feet and with excellent passing vision.

Of the current batch of youngsters on our books, Allan is one of the most impressive. Well done to him on the good news.
