You can take Luis Suarez out of Liverpool, but you can’t take Liverpool out of Luis Suarez.
The Uruguayan striker chose to spend a rare holiday – Barcelona don’t have a fixture until Saturday – back at his old Melwood stomping ground, showing that the Reds remain close to his heart.
Mamadou Sakho, who played alongside Suarez in the 2013-14 Premier League title charge, uploaded this video of his former teammate to Twitter, with the caption: “Special visit at Melwood this morning.”
Suarez seemed happy to be back, but unfortunately this was just a flying visit with his two children, and he will not be in the squad to face Manchester United in the Europa League on Thursday!
A Reds source told the Liverpool Echo: “Luis is on holiday from Barcelona, and so has come to spend time with his old friends. We have relaxed the visitor regulations for him.
“He’s just chilling out in the canteen with his little girl and boy and will watch training.”
Suarez has scored 42 goals in 41 games in his second season with Barcelona, whom he joined from Liverpool in the summer of 2014. Maybe one day, he will return for real. We can only dream!
