Jon Flanagan set to sign new three-year Liverpool contract

Good news, Reds. It’s finally happening!

Liverpool are on the verge of confirming Jon Flanagan’s three contract extension, the Telegraph report.

The new deal will keep Flanagan at the club until 2019 at least, and will be welcomed by all.

The 23-year-old fullback is out of contract in the summer and has been free to approach for any European side since the turn of the year due to the Bosman ruling, but thankfully his long-term future is now secured.

Local lad Flanagan missed almost 18 months through injury but has returned as a vital member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad – capable of playing at right-back or left-back.

With Alberto Moreno’s defensive frailties, many Reds have been calling for Flanagan to usurp the Spaniard in the first-choice starting XI.

The one-time England cap’s best game since returning was undoubtably at home to Manchester City, where his crunching tackle on Raheem Sterling set the tone for a superb 3-0 Premier League win.

Flanagan’s passionate, hard-working and leaves nothing on the field. His football embodies those who support him from the terraces, and that’s why he’s such an Anfield favourite.

The news proves how much the management and club rate the Scouser, and we hope his deserved contract propels him onto bigger and better things in a red shirt for years to come.
