Liverpool set to play Europa League qualifier away from Anfield

Posted by

We are reportedly going to play any potential Europa League qualifying round “home” leg at either Bolton or Wigan, with the ongoing work on the Main Stand set to rule out Anfield (via Echo).

According to the Echo, work on the £120 million project is well on schedule, but we will not be able to host home games until mid-August at the earliest.

We have already asked the Premier League for special allowance to play our first two games of the 2016/17 season away from home, a request the league is expected to happily accept.

It is understood by the Echo that Goodison Park is not being considered, and that playing at Anfield with a reduced capacity and amid the safety issues of the construction work is more hassle than it is worth.

The paper claims that “Both Bolton and Wigan would welcome the financial windfall of hosting the Reds.”

If we finished fifth we would avoid the qualifying rounds. But if we finish sixth and Man City finish in the top five, or we finish seventh and either West Ham or Man Utd win the FA Cup, we would play a qualifier.
