Henderson: Spurs result shows we’re “on the right track”

Our captain Jordan Henderson has been speaking to the LFC official website in the aftermath of our 1-1 draw with Spurs on Saturday.

Coutinho’s neat finish put us ahead, but Harry Kane’s smart strike meant both sides had to settle for a point.

He claims that despite arguably deserving to win the game, our performance and the result shows that we are heading in the right direction.

“I said earlier in the season that a lack of consistency has been our biggest downfall,” he said.

“We’ve produced some top-class performances in certain games and got some great results. But in others we haven’t been at that level and we’ve paid the price. There’s been a mixture of performances and we need to improve but I think we are going in the right direction. We are getting better all the time.

“In patches we were very good again against Spurs. We just needed to be a bit more patient with the ball at times.

“We matched a very good side who are going for the title, so that shows what we can do. On another day we would have won the game. It was a good game of football to play in.

“Spurs are a very good team and we saw that. But we did well and created some good chances. If we had been a bit more clinical we could have got the three points, but in the end a draw was a fair result.”

What do you think of Henderson’s comments?

The prevailing opinion is that we have been getting steadily better since the turn of the year, but the facts now show that we are winless in three (1-1 vs United, 2-3 vs Southampton, 1-1 vs Spurs). That winless run has come after a streak of five wins in seven – proving that the Klopp revolution, and our bid for consistency, is still very much a work in progress.

We think we speak for all Reds when we say “roll on the summer transfer window”!
