Firmino takes part in full training session ahead of Dortmund tie

Posted by

We’ve received a welcome boost this evening with the news that Roberto Firmino took part in a full training session on Wednesday afternoon, coming through it will no ill-effects (via Echo).

The Brazilian playmaker has been sidelined with a hamstring injury in recent weeks. He has not played since our 1-1 draw with Man Utd in the second leg of the Europa League last 16. The injury was picked up in training, and forced him to withdraw from Brazil’s recent squad for their games against Uruguay and Paraguay.

Despite his participation, there remains a question mark over whether or not he will be fit enough to take his place among the eleven starters. If he doesn’t, either James Milner or Adam Lallana will presumably take his place.

Elsewhere, there are no new fitness concerns. Lucas Leiva did not travel with the squad as he tries to recover from a  thigh problem, while Christian Benteke remains sidelined with knee ligament problem (via PhysioRoom).
