There’s always defining moments in big matches, and two went our way last night against Borussia Dortmund thanks to heroic defending from centre-backs Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren.
At the start of the game our hosts threatened to run riot in fairness, but we got to the half-time whistle 1-0 up thanks to Divock Origi’s opener, and the same striker was inches from making it 2-0 just before the whistle as well.
But last ditch blocks from Sakho and Lovren were just as important. First, Sakho stopped a Henrikh Mkhitaryan effort with the keeper out of position, and secondly Lovren, crucially got in the way of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s effort to deflect it wide.
We’ll need more of this at Anfield if we’re to progress.
