Liverpool’s starting centre-back Dejan Lovren sat out yesterday’s Stoke City pummelling, with Jurgen Klopp keen to keep him and Mamadou Sakho fresh for the second leg of the Europa League against Borussia Dortmund on Thursday.
But Lovren was all smiles after his team-mates secured a 4-1 win, and tried to shake his boss’s hand come the final whistle. Sadly, Klopp knew nothing about it, and Lovren was left right royally hanging!
Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure did well at Anfield on Sunday, but it’s a certainty that Lovren will earn a recall having played so well during the first leg in Germany.
How he and Sakho deal with Dortmund’s attacking trio of Marco Reus, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be key to our chances of progression.
