Liverpool fan tells an amazing story of his “ticket miracle”

It wasn’t just Dejan Lovren who was making miracles become reality last night.

In the beautiful afterglow of success, one fan has been telling his own heartwarming story of how a 70-year-old Austrian man saved him from a night in front of the telly.

32-year-old Guy Keeble had arranged to buy a ticket off a friend outside the stadium before kick-off but his plans quickly unravelled – only to be saved the kindest of a travelling fan.

We’ll let him tell the story in his own words:

“Me and a couple of the other lads had tickets lined up but it got to around 6.30pm and all of a sudden we were getting voicemail and starting to think ‘this is going wrong’,” he said (via Echo).

“We’d arranged to meet outside The Park pub at 7.30pm and he was nowhere to be seen. Half an hour to kick off and it was a little bit frantic.

“We did the usual, starting to speak to people who were kicking about to see if there were any spares going. But at that stage the going rate was £250. There was no way I was paying that.”

And then the miracle happened…

“It got to about five minutes to kick off, I was gutted and had essentially given up,” continued Guy. “I turned around to walk to the pub and get a spot to watch it. Out of nowhere, there was this hand on my arm. I turned around and there was this old chap getting on for 70.

“He said to me in broken English: ‘I’ve got a ticket for you. I’ve been watching you and can tell how much you want it. You can have this ticket.’

“He’d come across from Vienna. He said he usually comes across with his girlfriend and she couldn’t make it. He had been watching Liverpool for 50 years, UEFA Cup finals, European Cup finals – the lot.

“I was looking him up and down and thinking this can’t be real. I said to him ‘we need to get in there quick’ and ushered him towards the turnstyle.

“We both walked in the ground at the bottom of the Kop during You’ll Never Walk Alone, and I was just hugging this fella. I couldn’t stop hugging him. We spent the next mental 90 minutes as new best mates.”

Best of all, Roland wouldn’t accept any more than face value for the ticket – Guy kept offering more than the £36, but his new friend was having none of it!

What a guy. What a night. What a club.
