Sturridge wants Liverpool to imitate Leicester City

Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge reckons his side can follow Leicester City’s brilliant example.

Claudio Ranieri’s side are top of the Premier League, having fought relegation last term. As we all know, it’s one of the most amazing football stories of all time, and we at Empire of the Kop wish them luck in the pursuit of the title…

But Leicester did show signs of their enormous improvement towards the end of last season under Nigel Pearson. After Christmas, their start to 2015 was excellent, and they began this campaign where they left the last.

Sturridge thinks if Liverpool can finish 2015/16 strongly, regardless of whether we can finish in the top four or not, it’ll help us run into next – the first full season under Jurgen Klopp.

“If you look at Leicester, I think they were the best team from the start of [2015] up until the end of the year and now they’re three games from the Premier League,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

“Nobody would’ve ever thought that, so it shows you that anything is possible in football.

“As long as we finish the season strongly, then go into next season fresh off the back of the European Championships and Copa America, with the same mentality from this season, we’ll be in good stead.”

We like this from Sturridge. These quotes are not indicative of a player keen to leave Liverpool, despite the fact Klopp’s been using him sparingly in recent week.

Still, the striker is sure to start today’s clash with Bournemouth, and will be looking to bag again after scoring at home to Stoke last weekend.
