Liverpool have ‘concrete interest’ in my midfielder, says club director

It feels like Piotr Zielinski and his club Udinese want to tell everyone who’ll listen about Liverpool’s supposed interest!

The Polish midfielder has made countless claims, such as here in the Metro, that he might switch to Anfield in the summer, and now Udinese director of sport Cristiano Giaretta has discussed the proposed deal as well.

“There is interest from Liverpool and it is concrete interest,” Giaretta told Radio Punto Zero, cited in the Echo.

“He is doing very well and has the eyes of the Premier League on him.”

The 21-year-old has scored four goals and assisted four more from central midfield this term, on loan from Udinese at their Serie A rivals Empoli.

Zielinski is a slight figure, and prides himself on an ability to dribble centrally and play clever, intricate through-balls rather than offering a physical midfield presence.

Liverpool have already signed Marko Grujic ahead of next season for central midfield, so it’s clear the area is one Jurgen Klopp has earmarked for summer improvement.

By targeting Grujic and Zielinski, it’s also clear that the manager wants talented youngsters with room for improvement rather than established names.

If we do sign Zielinski, it’ll be interesting to see what happens to the current roster – as there might not be room for Lucas, Joe Allen, Jordan Henderson, Emre Can, Kevin Stewart, Grujic and Zielinski fighting for two spots.
