Liverpool scout spotted in France checking out Mario Gotze alternative

Liverpool scout Kevin Hunt was in Paris at the weekend checking out talented Argentine playmaker Javier Pastore, France Football have confirmed.

The 26-year-old has endured a difficult season under Laurent Blanc with injuries and the arrival of Angel Di Maria restricting him to a measly ten Ligue 1 starts – not befitting a player of his ability.

Pastore registered an assist in PSG’s 4-0 win v Rennes, and Hunt will have been impressed by what he saw.

The Argentine international has wonderful feet, can dribble, create and dictate his team’s attacks from a central playmaking role or either flank – although he’s not especially quick.

Liverpool have been heavily linked to Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze for months, but reports in the Independent have suggested Borussia Dortmund are keen on re-signing him – having accepted that Mats Hummels is heading in the other direction.

If Gotze prefers to stay in the Bundesliga, where he’s also pretty much guaranteed Champions League football every season, Dortmund may be a more attractive proposition for the 23-year-old.

If that proves to be the case, Pastore would be an exciting alternative. He oozes class and pizzazz, and is now entering his peak years.

Interestingly, France Football suggest we were also watching young centre-back Mamadou Dacoure, suggesting Liverpool are already looking for cover for Mamadou Sakho – set to be out for along time suspended for a drugs violation.
