Fan Opinion : To Basel or Not to Basel

Liverpool supporters won’t be stopped

Liverpool Football Club have issued a statement reminding fans not to travel to Basel for the Europa League final unless they have a match ticket.

UEFA confirmed that Liverpool received an allocation of just 10,236 tickets for the game, which will be played at St. Jakob-Park in Switzerland.

The statement issued by the club followed meetings with UEFA and the Local Organising committee in Basel.

But the statement is a waste of time because Liverpool supporters won’t be stopped supporting their team, especially since it’s their first European final in nine years.

Everyone knows it is just another crazy decision by UEFA to stage a final in a venue and town too small to cope with such an occasion, and you just wonder when the governing body will ever get men that care about the game and more importantly, the supporters, to make sensible decisions at UEFA.

UEFA’s decision to stage this year’s Europa League final in Basel is all the more problematic because a team like Liverpool with such a large following has made it to the final.

Liverpool supporters are hungry for success and they won’t be stopped going to Basel with or without tickets, and you can’t blame the fans for just wanting to be there to savour the occasion of another European final for their team.

Liverpool supporters won’t be stopped because they are the 12th man.
