Reliable German publication SZ Sport have produced a two page feature, collated by journalists Christof Kneer and Birgit Schönau, which finally provides an update to the Mario Gotze transfer saga.

They claim in their report that incoming Bayern manager Carlo Ancelotti phoned the 23-year-old playmaker and relayed the harsh news that he doesn’t feature in Munich’s long-term plans and that he should actively find himself a new club…

Mats Hummels and Renato Sanches have been signed ahead of next season for the perennial Bundesliga champions, but there’s no room for Gotze under the legendary Italian.

According to the article, Ancelotti also called Toni Kroos before taking the Real Madrid job in 2014, but in total opposite circumstances – promising the German midfielder that he’d build a Champions League winning side around him.

Crucially, SZ Sport say Liverpool are already in contact with Bayern’s officials over a summer deal for Gotze – with Jurgen Klopp desperate to reunite with the attacking midfielder he developed so brilliantly at Borussia Dortmund.

Gotze’s pedigree and talent are equally gigantic. He scored the winning goal in the World Cup Final in 2014 and has the potential to become a genuinely world-class creative force.

A summer deal, which now looks increasingly possible, would be enormously exciting for Liverpool fans – and send out a huge message of intent ahead of Klopp’s first full season in charge.
