Luis Suarez has revealed it was Carlos Tevez who swayed him to move to England and join Liverpool. That’s the same Tevez who was once the darling of Old Trafford (until he left for City!).

We bought Suarez for £22 million in the January transfer window of the 2010/11 season. Despite only staying with the club for a three and a half seasons, he etched his name into the Liverpool history books thanks to his goals, skills, and audacity on the pitch.

Now, in an interview with ESPN, he has claimed it was the ex-United striker who inspired his decision to leave Ajax.

“When I was playing at Ajax, it was Carlitos Tevez who inspired me to try to play in the Premier League,” the 29-year-old said. “I would watch him and I would think, ‘If Carlitos can do that, why can’t I? He is tiny against all those defenders.'”

Tevez was playing for City at the time.

Suarez left the club under the cloud of the World Cup biting scandal when he moved to Barcelona for £75 million, despite being banned from all football-related activity for the first four months of his debut season in Spain.

It’s all worked out though – Barcelona are on the verge of a Primera Division and Copa del Rey double, and Suarez has bagged an incredible 37 league goals.

Thanks for the memories, Luis. And thanks for the inspiration, Carlos!
