Eamonn Holmes has disrespectfully compared the scenes last night in which Manchester United’s team bus was attacked by a few drunken West Ham fans to Liverpool’s Hillsborough disaster – where 96 fans lost their lives in 1989.
The TV presenter and Manchester United fan was criticising the behaviour of the West Ham fans, when he said:
“This is going back to the 70s and to the 80s, the type of thing you were seeing that was bad about Hillsborough, for instance.”
No, Eamonn Holmes. In case you’d been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you’d know that the supporters were completely exonerated of blame for the tragedy, and those who died were ruled to be ‘unlawfully killed’.
Comparing the behaviour of a handful of West Ham fans to the fight for justice which has been fought for 27 years is truly idiotic.
This won’t be the last we hear of this.
