Sub-£20m Liverpool bid for Gotze made, reports German publication

FIFA fantasy could soon become reality…

You could be forgiven for thinking Mario Gotze was already a Liverpool player, such has been the volume speculation linking him with a Jurgen Klopp reunion, but, alas, he’s not. At least, not yet.

Germany publication RP ONLINE claim that Liverpool have made a bid though – reportedly worth €25m, which they say is €12m less than the fee Bayern Munich paid when the Bundesliga monopolisers signed Gotze from Dortmund in 2013.

With current exchange rates, €25m is just under £20m. This seems awfully cheap for a 23-year-old Gotze, especially considering the player has also been linked with Arsenal, via the Daily Star.

However, even the Star suggest Bayern could accept as little as £16m for Gotze, because his contract is up next summer.

Gotze would suit Arsenal’s style down to the ground, but he would fit in equally brilliantly at Anfield, especially under Klopp, who mentored him for five years at Dortmund.

Klopp demands that his players work hard, but he also likes them to have swagger and flair.

Gotze – the man who won the World Cup for Germany as a 22-year-old – ticks every box.
