Liverpool could complete £12m signing of midfielder by Wednesday

Liverpool could complete the £12m signing of Udinese midfielder Piotr Zielinski as early as this week, according to reports in Poland.

Polish news outlet Przeglad Sportowy claims that terms with the 21-year could be agreed today, and that the player will sign a contract on Wednesday.

A deal for Zielinski appears to have been in the pipeline for some time as Jurgen Klopp continues to press on with moulding his squad for next season.

Versatile defender Joel Matip is joining on a free transfer from Schalke 04, while Marko Grujic is linking up with the first team after his switch from Red Star Belgrade was secured in January.

Zielinski has spent the last two years on loan at Empoli, scoring five goals and contributing six assists in 35 games to help them to a top-half finish this campaign.

The Poland international’s arrival potentially spells bad news for Joe Allen, whose chances in midfield had already been limited before the influx of signings who can play in that area.

Allen has become a fans’ favourite in recent months due to some excellent performances and important goals, but it seems that there may not be room for him under Klopp.
