Alberto Moreno speaks out following Liverpool horror-show; comments certain to annoy fans

These comments from Alberto Moreno, following the 3-1 Europa League Final defeat to Sevilla, may rile a few of our supporters.

The Spaniard had a shocker in the second-half, and was a large reason his former club got back into the game and went on to win it, although it’s important to say that his team-mates also let themselves down.

Moreno messed up for Sevilla’s first and was a bundle of nerves from here on after.

Instead of apologising to fans for the abject display, the 23-year-old has chosen to congratulate our opponents and simply claim they were the better team.

“Congratulations to Sevilla. We played a good Europa League. We’ve had a good season, but have not been able to lift a trophy,” Moreno said, reported in the Daily Mail.

“We were better in the first half, and had more chances. It’s true that they rolled over us in the second half.

“They came out flying, and scored three times in 20 minutes. They were the better team. They deserved to win the trophy. We must just lift our heads and think of next season.”

Moreno has obviously meant no harm with these quotes, and has tried to take the professional route, but he’s misjudged the emotion of the fanbase right now. We didn’t see passion last night, and to calmly claim Liverpool were simply ‘rolled over’ is frankly not good enough.

Fans spent thousands of pounds travelling to Basel to support the team, and were not granted with a performance to make them proud. Liverpool outnumbered Sevilla fans 5:1 in the ground, but there was more heart on show in white shirts than red – which is very hard to absorb.

We will look forward to next season, Alberto – but we’re not sure how much of a role you’ll play.
