Angry Markovic hits out at ‘bull****’ media; following false party claims

Liverpool’s Serbian midfielder Lazar Markovic is not having a happy loan spell in Turkey.

Injuries have decimated his campaign with Fenerbahce, and he was recently ridiculed by the Istanbul media for partying with Besiktas players after they won the title. Besiktas are of course an enemy of Fener, but Markovic today claimed the stories were completely fabricated.

The 22-year-old was signed by Brendan Rodgers and the transfer committee in 2014, but failed to establish himself during his debut season on Merseyside, often deployed as a right wing-back. For this reason, he was shipped on loan to Turkey, and Jurgen Klopp was unable to recall him when he took over due to a clause in the contract.

The manager though has told Markovic (reported by Setanta) he has a future at Liverpool if he wants to join up with the squad for pre-season and fight for an opportunity.

“We had a little talk about things. I said at the start of pre-season you will be very welcome and then it’s up to you,” he said in March.

“That is how it is in football. It’s a long pre-season and if he wants to come back to Liverpool in July he’s welcome.

“We are short on wingers. Everybody who is involved in pre-season can have a part to play next season. We need a big squad because of the European Championships.

“Pre-season is a long time to show what you have and then after this we’ll make decisions.”

Serbia haven’t qualified for the Euros, so Markovic will have the whole summer to show Klopp and his team that he’s up to scratch. Interestingly, he’ll be joining up with fellow Serbian Marko Grujic, who will start training with his new team-mates for the first time after sealing a transfer from Red Star Belgrade back in January.
