Xabi Alonso hasn’t played for Liverpool – apart from his appearance in last year’s Steven Gerrard vs Jamie Carragher charity match – since 2009.
However, the 34-year-old playmaker clearly still holds the Reds very close to his heart.
In a recent interview with Jamie Carragher for the Daily Mail, Alonso’s Bayern Munich teammate Philipp Lahm revealed that the Spaniard has told him wonderful things about Anfield.
When asked by Carra if he could be persuaded to join Liverpool, Lahm laughed and said: “Not this time! I watch the English league more now [Jurgen] Klopp’s there. The atmosphere is incredible and Xabi Alonso has told me about the fantastic atmosphere at Liverpool but I’m going nowhere.”
Sadly, it seems Xabi’s endorsement will not be enough to convince Lahm to move to Merseyside, but we remain hopeful that our former midfield master’s sales pitch will work on fellow Bayern teammate Mario Gotze,at least.
