Whenever there is a major International football tournament, we Liverpool fans can’t help it but hold our breath hoping that all our players are returned back in one piece following the campaign.
Up to eleven Liverpool players can feature in this Summer’s competition, five of them have made Roy Hodgson’s England 29 man provisional squad. These are Nathaniel Clyne, Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana, James Milner and Daniel Sturridge. Danny Ward and Joe Allen have been called up for Wales while Emre Can is the German squad. The Belgian contingent includes Simon Mignolet, Christian Benteke and Divock Origi.
This year we could see a record number of Liverpool players playing in the Euros (in 2008 eight players made it to Poland and Ukraine) and I am sure that Jurgen Klopp is going to be watching closely. Many England fans would see it as blasphemy, however an early England elimination would really be beneficial to Liverpool as the players will be able to join the pre-season early. Germany’s betting odds appear to be in favor of being in the tournament until the bitter end so we can assume that Emre Can will not be available for much of the pre-season. The big challenge for Klopp might be the keepers as both Danny Ward and Simon Mignolet have been called by their respective countries.
Although Liverpool signed German stopper Loris Karius however he will not be available for the first three weeks of the season as he is in the German Olympic Squad.
And if the Euros weren’t enough of a headache there is also the Copa America taking place this Summer and Phillipe Coutinho is in the Brazilian squad.
