Brendan Rodgers wants to romantically bring Liverpool legend to Celtic

Celtic’s new manager Brendan Rodgers wants to sign his former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, reports the Belfast Telegraph.

Gerrard, now 35, is currently contracted to MLS franchise LA Galaxy, whom he joined from us in summer 2015 after 17 loyal years of first-team service.

The report suggests that homesick Gerrard will head back across the pond following this season, and could join up with Rodgers as a player/coach at Celtic Park.

Under Rodgers, Gerrard came the closest he ever got to winning the Premier League, but our challenge in 2013/14 fell agonisingly short – despite world-class seasons from Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and the skipper himself.

He’s done ok stateside, but hardly lit up MLS in the manner in which many hoped he would, and it’s clear his abilities as a top midfielder are sadly on the wane.

The SPL is probably a similar level to MLS, but Gerrard will be closer to Liverpool and get the chance to hone his coaching skills – while hopefully winning a league title as well!

For us, the potential move seems like the perfect marriage.
