Daniel Agger set for blockbuster Bosman deal to European giant

Reports emerged last week that Daniel Agger would be brought back to England to play for Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle side in the Championship, but it now looks like he’ll join AC Milan instead!

According to talkSPORT, the 31-year-old Dane has been approached by the Serie A giants about a Bosman deal, with his contract at current club Brondby expiring at the end of the month.

Agger’s been with his boyhood club for the past two seasons, but could now make the switch to Italy for a significant pay rise.

Milan currently have the ageing Alex and Italian Andrea Poli at the back, but Agger would arrive to compete with that pair for a starting spot. Milan, one of Europe’s best sides during the mid-noughties, have struggled in recent seasons, and finished seventh last term – 34 points behind champions Juventus – who also beat them in the Cup Final.

They’re now backed by billionaire owners, but still endured a relatively poor season when you consider their pedigree and history.

Agger’s stock and form has dropped over the past few years and it’s a surprise that he’s getting a move to such an established club. There was a time when he turned down Barcelona and Manchester City to stay with Liverpool, but injuries and a loss of confidence saw us let him go.
