Reina’s father quells rumours of shock move – says GK likely to stay in Italy

Pepe Reina was earlier linked with a shock return to Anfield (via Mirror) – but his father has played down the rumours.

Reina is already a club legend, he made 394 appearances in the club during an eight-year spell from 2005 to 2013, but we’d all love to see him back in the north-west as a deputy to the newly-signed Karius.

However, according to the player’s father, Reina is likely to remain at Napoli this summer:

“We do not talk about the market in the family, we are not aware of the interest of Barcelona or other teams,” he said to Corriere dello Sport.

“Liverpool? There is nothing, just rumours. The great affection that Pepe has for the Napoli is known.”

We are convinced a move for Reina would be a bad idea. It’s unlikely that Mignolet will accept being number two, and will probably look to move in January or next summer.

Bringing back the Spaniard – who knows so much about the club and has a fantastic rapport with fans – would allow Karius time to bed in while also having a club legend to learn from.
