Ashley Williams reveals Wales squad have weekly ‘Joe Allen Appreciation Days’

It seems that the Welsh squad love Joe Allen just as much as we do.

Wales skipper Ashley Williams has told WalesOnline that the Liverpool midfielder is adored by his international colleagues, who hold weekly ‘Joe Allen Appreciation Days’ on their WhatsApp group.

“Everyone loves Joe,” Williams told WalesOnline as he profiled each of his Red Dragons teammates.

“We have a WhatsApp messaging group and at least once a week we have a Joe Allen Appreciation Day. Great beard, great haircut, great guy, he’s the main man in the squad. Class player too.”

Allen is sitting out of Wales’s friendly with Sweden this afternoon with a minor knee injury, but BBC Sport reports that he will be fit for their tournament opener against Slovakia on June 11.

In Group B, Wales also face Russia and England, where Allen could face some of his Reds pals – Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana, James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge.

Hopefully there will be opportunities for Liverpool fans to have Joe Allen Appreciation Days next season, with the midfielder having developed into a firm favourite of the majority inside Anfield.

But the 26-year-old, who made just eight Premier League starts last season, only has one year left on his Liverpool contract, and the Daily Mail has tipped him to rejoin Swansea City this summer.
