Liverpool reject Brendan Rodgers’ Gomez approach, but will sell Celtic 23-year-old for £3m instead

When Brendan Rodgers took over at Liverpool, he immediately turned his attentions to former club Swansea’s best player Joe Allen, acquiring the Welsh midfielder for £15m. He also secured Fabio Borini, who he’d managed at Swansea as well – and now at Celtic – he’s trying to repeat the trick by raiding Liverpool for new signings.

Rodgers took over at the Glasgow club a few weeks back, and has asked Liverpool about securing a loan deal for Joe Gomez. Thankfully, we rejected their approach, but according to the Daily Mail, are happy to sell them Andre Wisdom instead.

The 23-year-old has been long forgotten by Liverpool, having spent the past three seasons on loan at Derby, West Brom and the  Norwich – but he’s not developed at the rate we hoped and is now deemed surplus to requirements.

Last season with Norwich, Wisdom played only ten Premier League games for the relegated Canaries, and does not have the required ability to make the grade at Anfield.

If we can get £3m for Wisdom, we should take it – and wish the former England Under-21 skipper all the best north of the border.

It’s no surprise the offer for Gomez was dismissed quickly. The teenager is immensely talented and would have played a big role in 2015/16 if it wasn’t for a season ending injury. After a full pre-season the youngster will hopefully be ready to take next term by the horns. Exiting Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel should pave Gomez’s way to the first-team, fourth in the pecking order behind Dejan Lovren, Mamadou Sakho and Joel Matip.
