Klopp could raid Bundesliga again as German defender catches his eye

Jurgen Klopp is apparently keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah, and could look to bring the German international to Liverpool at some point this summer, according to Bild (via the Daily Star).

The 20-year-old has been hugely impressive in the Bundesliga recently, and has just received an emergency call up to the German national side after Antonio Rudiger suffered a tournament ending injury.

Klopp is reportedly keen on signing the £9.5m rated centre-back (via the Star), although the move will hinge on whether Mamadou Sakho’s potential failed drugs test ban sees him miss the start of the campaign.

As the report suggests, Kolo Toure has already left the club, with Martin Skrtel soon set to follow. We’re left with Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez, the newly signed Joel Matip, and Mamadou Sakho; and if the Frenchman does end up being banned we’d be left extremely light at the back.

If Klopp is actually looking to bring Tah to Anfield then he’ll have to move quickly, as we’re facing competition from Chelsea and new boss Antonio Conte (via the Star).

Even if Sakho is ready and eligible to start the 2016/17 campaign, we could still arguably use another signing – and with Gomez and Matip versatile enough to play in other positions the competition shouldn’t be an issue.

It seems we’ll have to wait until UEFA reveal their decision on Sakho’s ban before we get anything concrete on Tah (or any other centre-back signing) unfortunately, so hopefully we get a response soon.
