Liverpool transfer roundup: Kovacic, Kostic, & Argentine star linked

Despite the Euro 2016 Championships being in full swing at this point, the rumour mill is still working overtime. We’ve been linked with a number players over the last few days, so we’ve taken a look at the players being most heavily linked with a Liverpool switch today – 18 June.

Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic is being linked with an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu, with the Croatian struggling to nail down a place in Spain. We’re being linked with a £23.5m move for the 22-year-old (via the Daily Star), but are facing serious competition from Roma.

We’re also being linked with a number of wingers, as reports have resurfaced regarding Sofiane Boufal and Filip Kostic (via the Echo). The Moroccan looks destined for somewhere more like Barcelona or Real Madrid unfortunately, but Kostic certainly looks attainable. He was relegated from the Bundesliga this past season with Stuttgart, and the report suggests the 23-year-old will consequently be available for just £12m.

We’ve also been tipped to sign a centre-back this summer, as not only is Martin Skrtel apparently on his way out of the club (via The Guardian), but Mamadou Sakho could still find himself banned at the start of the season (via the Echo).

River Plate’s Gabriel Mercado was apparently scouted by Jurgen Klopp recently, with the manager watching him for Argentina during their Copa America clash with Chile. There are issues surrounding the 29-year-old’s work-permit, but if they can be resolved then Klopp is seemingly keen to bring him to the Premier League.

The versatile defender is able to play a number of positions and could be an incredibly useful utility man, allowing him to cover for the potentially ineligible Sakho before being switched to another position.
