Ex-Liverpool star plays down Anfield return

Nuri Sahin has been linked with a return to Liverpool this summer, with his time at Borussia Dortmund marred by injury and the Turkish unable to to nail down down a regular starting spot (via talkSPORT).

He’s played down an exit from the Bundesliga side though, insisting that he’s happy at Dortmund and that there’s no truth in the rumours linking him with a move away.

“I am very happy at Dortmund,” Sahin told Sport360.

“Yesterday it was Galatasaray, tomorrow it is Fiorentina – it’s normal of course in football to hear these things but I am very happy at Dortmund.

“I’m happy that I am healthy again. I will finish the Euros, and then my focus will be fully on Dortmund. I’m fit and I hope I can have a good pre-season.”

The 27-year-old enjoyed a loan spell at Liverpool during the 2012-13 season, but failed to have much of an impact. He hasn’t enjoyed the best time at Dortmund either, but is still being linked with a move to both Galatasaray and Liverpool (via talkSPORT).

While Sahin has shown real quality at times during his career – hardly surprising considering he’s a former Real Madrid star – he hasn’t impressed enough to really warrant a return to Liverpool. He didn’t seem particularly well suited to the Premier League, and you’d hope Jurgen Klopp would know that. There are arguably far better midfield options out there, a number of them already linked with a Liverpool switch.
