Heroic Masters golf champion hails unlikely Liverpool inspiration

Posted by

Not many people will have heard of unassuming Danny Willett before April – but his stunning three-shot win over runners-up Lee Westwood and defending champion Jordan Spieth at the Masters golf tournament in Augusta catapulted him into the nation’s hearts.

What is even less well-known is that Willett is a huge Liverpool fan.

So it made his day, week, and year, therefore, when he bumped into our boss Jurgen Klopp at Dusseldorf airport.

The two shared a brief chat, signed some autographs, and took some selfies.

“That was very nice,” said Willett.

“We landed at the airport and Jurgen was about to fly out on holiday with his family after a fairly busy season.

“I have been to Anfield a couple of times this season so it was pretty cool to meet him.

“We didn’t talk much about golf to be honest, it was mostly football.”

“He is a pretty inspirational character and is obviously hugely popular here in Germany.” (via Echo).
