Liverpool and Arsenal are among the sides who have expressed at interest in Sporting Lisbon’s coveted Algerian striker, Islam Slimani.

According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, ourselves, Arsenal, Tottenham, Lazio and Atletico Madrid are all keen on doing a deal for the 28-year-old. Arsenal reportedly joined the race after Jamie Vardy rejected a move to London and signed a new deal with reigning champions Leicester City.

Slimani scored 31 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions last season, though he only managed 10 and 15 goals in the two previous campaigns.

Slimani joined Sporting in the summer of 2013 from six-time Algerian champions CR Belouizdad.

O Jogo make no mention of any possible fee, but given the low profile of the player and his age, we’d expect to pay very little compared to recent big money flops like Balotelli and Benteke.
