Superstar deal collapses as Argentine striker signs new deal in Italy

Our brief flirtation with Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain appears to be dead after the 28-year-old signed a new deal with Napoli.

According to Argentine news outlet TyC Sports, the player has signed a deal that will keep him at the club until at least 2020 and will net him a cool £5.3 million per year.

The striker was one of the most in-form in Europe last season as he bagged 36 goals in 35 Serie A appearances for Napoli.

Klopp was spotted watching him at the Copa America in the United States, but it was unclear whether or not we ever made a bid.

Napoli ultimately finished second to Juventus in the Serie A title race, but it was still one of the most successful seasons they’ve had in recent times.

The Express claim the news will also come as a blow for Chelsea, with Conte on the hunt for a new striker to partner Costa.
