Liverpool target Islam Slimani is highly unlikely to stay at his current club Sporting Lisbon this summer.

According to Portuguese newspaper Record, the striker will seek to leave the country in a bid to further his career.

It is thought we are one of a number of clubs who are monitoring the situation, with Leicester, Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton, Crystal Palace, and West Ham all also very keen on the Algerian 28-year-old.

With the exception of the players at the Euros in France, he was the only member of the Sporting Lisbon squad not to report for pre-season this week.

“Right now, there is nothing new regarding my situation. I have a contract with Sporting and I have to respect my club honouring that contract,” he said.

“I do not know what will happen in the future. So I’d rather not talk about it. The my future for now is to return to Sporting.”
