Christian Benteke has been heavily tipped to leave Liverpool this summer, but his agent suggests he’s set to stay, according to a Sport Witness exclusive.
As the report suggests, the Belgian has recently been linked with a big money move to Atletico Madrid. His agent Kismet Eris claims there is absolutely no truth in the story whatsoever, and insists he won’t be joining the La Liga side ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.
The 25-year-old was apparently set to sign for Atletico before the end of the Euro 2016 Championships, but it now seems as though he’ll be staying put.
Asked if there was any truth in the rumours, Eris replied: “[There’s] nothing at all with any team”.
And then when he was asked if Benteke would be staying at Liverpool in a follow up question, he simply replied: “Yes”.
While there’s no telling how much truth there is in any of this, Benteke’s agent is certainly more credible than a random Spanish news outlet. It doesn’t seem like he really has much of a future at the club, but he may get one more season to prove himself.
His agent may just be covering his bases, making sure that Benteke doesn’t burn his bridges at Liverpool in case he were unable to find a new club this summer. It’s hard to see him being satisfied with a place on the bench for the entire season, so unless Jurgen Klopp has guaranteed him regular first-team football he may be looking toward the exit.
