As the Piotr Zielinski transfer continues to stall, and with Lucas Leiva recently expressing doubts over his Liverpool future, it seems like we’ve now turned our attention to Belgian midfield enforcer, Alex Witsel.

The 27-year-old star, who is currently in France with the Belgian national team, only has one year remaining on his contract at Zenit Saint-Petersburg and is keen to leave the Russian Super League.

According to tuttomercatoweb.com, ourselves, Manchester United, and Chelsea are the three favourites to land his signature, though Serie A’s Juventus and Napoli are also monitoring the situation closely.

It is unclear how much money Zenit would demand for the player, but the Italian clubs would struggle to match the riches of the English clubs.

Witsel has been in Russia since 2012 after signing a £30 million deal to leave Benfica.

He has 71 caps for the national team, and will make that 72 when he lines up against Wales on Friday in Lille.
